Donations

It costs Ronald McDonald House $210 per night per family (approximately $17,000 per day) to operate, sustain and staff the House. Because we know that cancer can be financially as well as emotionally devastating, Ronald McDonald House asks each family to pay only a nominal fee of $35.00 per night. In many cases, this fee is reduced or waived.

Please think of Ronald McDonald House of New York City when you want to:

Mark a Joyous Occasion
Memorialize a Family Member or Friend

Your gift will be acknowledged to the person or family you designate.
We guarantee we will use your gift to help families whose children are in cancer therapy. Your contribution is tax deductible to the full extent of the law.  Donations may be made through cash, check, or credit card.  Donations of appreciated stock and vehicles/boats/RVs may also be accepted, please call in advance.   In-kind donations of materials may also be eligible for donation, please call the house before planning a delivery.

Outside Groups

We would be very pleased to listen to your ideas of ways to raise funds to support the Ronald McDonald House.  Some organizations hold an event annually; others do a one of a kind effort.  In some cases outside organizations host cocktail parties or some other form of get-together where donations are collected and presented to an attending member of the Ronald McDonald House’s Administration.  We are happy to attend and relate to your audience the work that we do for families at our “House”.  In other cases, an organization may collect materials that are converted to a cash donation or sell products on our behalf and present those proceeds in some way befitting the occasion.   From time to time, we are able to be the venue for outside organizations that are spearheading an event such as a Wine Tasting, a Bar-Be-Que competition or Casino Night.  If your organization already has a fundraising event that you would like to direct the proceeds towards the Ronald McDonald House, we would be proud to be the recipients of your efforts (again we would be pleased to attend and make a presentation.)

The Development Department has on its annual calendar several events that individuals and groups can participate in or donate.   Our Annual Gala held in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf=Astoria is our premiere event featuring the Who’s Who of New York City.   Our Annual Kid’s Charity Fun Run takes place in Central Park on the Saturday before the New York Marathon.  We will hold several Broadway Theater Events (generally with dinner or pre-theatre cocktails, a great way to entertain clients!) For the sports enthusiast both the NY Rangers and the NY Giants are great supporters with Team Members participating by signing autographs and sports memorabilia auctions.  The NY Rangers Skate with the Greats event is an early winter event held on the ice at Rockefeller Center and the NY Giants Dinner is a great fall event.  In addition, the exclusive Winged Foot Golf Club is the site of our Annual Golf Classic each fall.

Many companies have matching Gift Programs and participate in an Annual United Way Campaign, please remember us in cases such as these.

Perhaps your employer or your family has a foundation that funds organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House.  Please inform us of that and your familiarity with the Foundation’s Board.

In all cases, we will be pleased to send thank you acknowledgements and tax donation letters when appropriate.

Fund Raising Restrictions

We request that you do not obligate the Ronald McDonald House of New York as a third party to any contractual agreements and wherever possible contain all expenses to the hosting organization.  There are also certain restrictions related to the character Ronald McDonald, his appearance and image, and the corporate image and identity of the McDonald’s Corporation.   While many of our families would be happy to attend your event as guests of your organization, it is important to understand that during the day most families are visiting the hospital with their child.  That being said, we will do our best to assist your efforts in any way that is within our limited ability, including but not limited to some clerical, logistical, accounting, and personnel support.

SODA CAN POP TOPS- The Ronald McDonald House of New York does not have adequate storage space to receive Pop Tops from Soda Cans (for redemption as recycled aluminum).  To pay for the gas alone to take the Pop Tops to a recycling center would require us to convert a large activity space into dead storage.  If you have ever lived in NYC (or still do) you will understand how limited space really is.   Please do not send us your youth group’s collected Pop Tops, please consider a group field trip to the recycling center and then a group presentation of your donation at the Ronald McDonald House.  Someone from the Development Department would be happy to talk with your group about the mission of the “House” and thank them for their efforts.
