The following opportunities may be available at the Ronald McDonald House - a “home away from home” for children with cancer and their families. |

There are seven teams of volunteers, one for every night of the week.
Each team has between 10 and 15 volunteer members.
One volunteer on each team is the volunteer team leader and another is the co-leader.
Volunteers create and implement an activity for every night of the year.
The volunteer teams lead recreational programs every evening of the year. (e.g., birthday parties, holiday events, arts/crafts, cooking, visits to sporting events / cultural institutions / landmarks, so that there is a good mix of in-house and out-of-house activities and events every day. )
Lead a discussion group on music, drama, literature, or the arts.
Assist with cooking and serving meals / snacks.
Organize a group from your office, religious institution, school to host a special program for the families.
Assist with the annual volunteer fundraising event by getting the word out to your friends, family and co-workers. Provide/solicit auction and raffle times. Sell raffle tickets.
We ask that volunteer working on teams make at least a one year commitment (over half of all volunteers on teams have been here over five years). |

Team Leaders are assigned by the Director of Volunteer Services for a two year term.
Most of the Evening teams also have a volunteer co-leader.
The team leaders are responsible to work with their team of volunteers to ensure that every night has a well planned and family appropriate activity scheduled.
Team leaders host a monthly team meeting where they discuss the activities and events for the families on their night of volunteering.
Team leaders are the main avenue of communication between the volunteer team members and the House staff and management.
Team leaders help the volunteers in locating resources within the community, exploring ways each volunteer may include their company in the volunteer experience and promote the annual volunteer fundraiser.
Maintain records as needed. |

Surviving and living with a life threatening illness such as cancer requires working through emotional and spiritual issues. Trained therapy dogs are especially effective in helping to boost morale and social-spiritual wellbeing. Therapy dogs assist in creating a diversion from the routine and adding spontaneity to daily care. They also serve as a conduit for communication, allowing others to voice needs and concerns of their own to a non-judgmental and loving presence. The healing presence of a therapy dog allows people to live in the present moment, to let go of past struggles or their fears of what the future may hold.
Therapy dogs and their owners pass a comprehensive evaluation and follow stringent healthcare guidelines beforebeing accepted into our program as a volunteer.
Dogs must be trained and certified to visit complex healthcare facilities such as hospitals, nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.
Visits with therapy dogs will take place on the 1st floor in the lobby and chapel areas and in the Spiritual care office. |
